Concerning the Ministry of Justice
The areas of responsibility of the Ministry of Justice are numerous and varied and include legal advice and legislation, the Office of the State Attorney, Civilian Legal Aid, the Public Defender, the Department of the Public Trustee and the Official Receiver, the Department of Land Settlement Registration, the Department of the Chief Government Appraiser, the National Center for Mediation, the various registrars including the Companies Registrar, the Patent, Designs and Trademark Registrar, the Information Storehouse Registrar, additional registrars and also units responsible for professional licensing, including the Council of Chartered Accountants, the Council of Land Appraisers, the Mediators Registrar and the Department for Licensing Private Investigators and Security Services. An additional unit was added to the Ministry in 2001, that being the Authority with jurisdiction pursuant to the Prohibition on Money Laundering Law, whose function is to centralize the activities of the enforcement authorities in Israel against the phenomenon of money laundering. An additional new unit that was established during 2001 is the unit of the Registrar of Authorizing Bodies which was established pursuant to the Electronic Signature Law. Within the scope of its duties, the unit will manage a registry and will supervise the bodies which issue electronic signatures..
As can be gleaned from the list of units and areas of their operation, this is a supremely professional ministry that constitutes the “biggest law office in the country”. Hundreds of lawyers and additional professional bodies deal with a vast variety of legal subject matters. The Ministry and its operations constitute a cornerstone in the existence, fortification and creation of the rule of law in the State of Israel.
